Die Bewohner Cicelys leiden unter dem Vollmond, sie schlafen schlecht und sind misslaunig. Besonders Chris verhält sich merkwürdig. Zur gleichen Zeit taucht Bernard, ein Steuerberater aus Portland, in Cicely auf. Offenbar besteht zwischen Chris und ihm eine spirituelle Bindung, die so weit geht, dass die beiden identisch träumen. Es zeigt sich, dass die beiden Männer Halbbrüder sind. Joel hat derweil mitten im Wald eine Autopanne und trifft auf einen höchst sonderbaren Mann.
The approach of the Aurora Borealis and the constant light produces some strange behavior among the residents of Cicely. Chris abandons the radio station to build an unusual piece of modern sculpture and to get acquainted with a new soul mate that has come into town on some predestined mission. Joel journeys into the back woods to visit an isolated forest ranger and, when he gets stuck coming home, remembers the stories of a strange Bigfoot-like creature named Adam rumored to be roaming the area. Joel is rescued by Adam, who turns out to be real and a damn good cook, only when he returns to town no one believes him.

Joel esegue una visita al domicilio di una stressata guardia forestale, il ranger Burns. Di ritorno, il dottore si imbatte in Adam, che si credeva essere una figura mitica, una specie di bigfoot locale, ma si rivela invece essere uno scorbutico eremita, dal passato misterioso e dal sorprendente talento culinario. Adam dice di nascondersi nei boschi di Cicely da 15 anni, e Ruth-Anne conferma che da 15 anni vi sono strani accadimenti in città, come furti di libri di cucina.
Quando Joel torna a Cicely e racconta tutto agli amici al The Brick, nessuno gli crede. Tornato sul posto con Ed e Maggie, Adam e la sua capanna sono scomparsi, ma a sua testimonianza viene trovato uno spremiaglio per terra.
A Cicely arriva Bernard, uomo di colore di Portland, dopo un viaggio in moto di 5 giorni consecutivi senza mai dormire, spinto fin lì da un inspiegabile impulso a cui non ha potuto resistere. Si trova subito in sintonia con Chris e, dopo aver lavorato insieme ad una scultura ispirata dalla luce del Nord, intitolata appunto "L'aurora boreale", ed aver avuto lo stesso identico sogno, i due scoprono di condividere non solo la stessa data di nascita, ma anche lo stesso padre che, grazie ai lavori di commesso viaggiatore e camionista, si è diviso fra due vite e due famiglie.

El coche de Joel se estropea en mitad del bosque, en una carretera muy poco transitada. Resignado a su suerte, el buen doctor se dispone a pasar la noche allí, hasta que es despertado por unos misteriosos ruidos…
Alguien está revolviendo en la parte trasera del coche. ¿Podría tratarse de Adam, esa misteriosa criatura descalza que, según dicen, ronda por los bosques? Mientras tanto, Chris, enfrascado en la creación de una escultura de la Aurora Boreal, recibe la inesperada ayuda de Bernard, un motorista con el que parece compartir un misterioso vínculo.
Dr. Fleischman golfozás közben egy hatalmas emberi lábnyomot vesz észre. Feltűnik a városkában Bernard, aki miután eladta portlandi lakását, vett egy motorkerékpárt és számára is megmagyarázhatatlan okból észak felé vette az irányt. Összetalálkozik Chris-szel, akivel furcsa összhangba kerülnek, még az álmaik is közösek.
