Käpt'n Barnius und Kwasi entdecken interessante Unterwasserhöhlen. Dabei wird das U-Boot plötzlich von einem Wesen von hinten gepackt und kräftig durchgeschüttelt. Wieder zurück im Oktopod entdecken die Oktonauten schleimige Tinte und merkwürdige Abdrücke auf dem Schiff. Professor Tintling vermutet, dass sie von seinem Cousin Irving, dem Riesentintenfisch, stammen könnten. Und so machen sich Käpt'n Barnius, Kwasi, Peso und Professor Tintling auf, um den scheuen Riesenkalmar zu finden.
