Gerichtsmediziner Quincy und sein Assistent Sam fliegen nach Acapulco, um einen sensationellen Knochenfund zu untersuchen. In einem südamerikanischen Dorf sind angeblich die Gebeine und das Leichentuch des Heiligen Fra Diego, eines Märtyrers aus dem 16. Jahrhundert, gefunden worden. Doch sind die Gebeine wirklich alt?

Asten sends Quincy and Sam, at the request of Archbishop Vallejo, to San Remos, Mexico. They are sent to a small village where a young woman is seemingly curing people of their illnesses. She says that she gained her powers from some bones she found in a cave. Quincy and Sam have to join a group of eminent scientists trying to determine how old the bones are and whether they could possibly belong to a legendary missionary from the time of the Incas.

Quincy e Sam scoprono con disappunto che la loro vacanza in Messico non è proprio... di piacere. Alcuni scienziati chiedono aiuto a Quincy per poter stabilire se le ossa e un sudario, trovati in una grotta, appartenevano ad un prete vissuto nel XVII secolo. Quando Quincy e Sam si recano alla grotta, vengono minacciati da un gruppo di scienziati, capeggiati dalla risoluta dottoressa Berg.
