With an airboat and a short window of time, they head up the Tsirku River through shallow water, shifting gravel bars, and unknown conditions ahead. Every bend could be the one that stops them. We’re back at Nugget Creek, getting camp set and taking our first real look at the creek. Gear is rolling in—along with Danielle and a surprise arrival—and the grind for gold is officially underway.
Mother Nature—our well-weathered excavator—climbs up Nugget Creek to tear into our first dig site of the season. Every bucket gets us closer to sluicing, dredging, and chasing our first gold. Meanwhile, Danielle heads to Juneau on a major supply run—airboat, airplane, and ferry—just to keep camp alive. Remote mining doesn’t get more real than this. The push for gold is officially on!

With progress erased and no sluice ready to run, the crew makes the call to leave camp and track down the parts needed to keep the season alive—because out here, you move forward or you don’t move at all.

He climbs a rock wall with a mini excavator to repair the diversion — no hesitation, no backup plan, no room for fear. It’s a move most wouldn’t even consider — but if this season gets saved, it’s because Dustin was willing to do it. Two problems. One narrow window. This is what it takes to keep digging for gold.

Danielle lowers the creek as Dustin starts digging and stockpiling pay dirt—getting everything ready for processing. But before the plant can go in, one last problem stops everything. A giant rock—Asteroid Rock—falls over at the end of the weir, backing water up into the dig site. It’s too big to move, leaving only one option… blow it up. Once the rock is gone, the crew races to set up Jack Spare-O Parts and test the custom funnel Paul and Wes built. The water test turns sketchy—but it looks like there’s enough water to make it work. Everything is finally in place. Gold is close. Really close.
We finally get Jack Spare-O Parts set up and running. What should be a simple water setup turns into a problem-solving scramble as we fight low flow and make adjustments just to keep the sluice alive. After setbacks, fixes, and long hours at the creek, the hunt continues. By the end of the day, the hunt starts to pay off with our first old out of the sluice! This is what chasing gold on Nugget Creek really takes.
Exhausted, soaked, and pushing through doubts, we finish running our first pile through the sluice. Jack is working, but not up to par—and the gold isn’t showing up the way we hoped. Morale is wearing thin. While Paul and Wes rebuild the dredge, Dustin and Danielle head out on a fuel run. The break changes everything. Back together, spirits are up as we head upstream for our first dredge run of the season—a fresh start, a new layer, and renewed hope that the gold is still there. Sometimes all it takes is one good run to turn everything around.
The crew finally gets eyes on the creek bottom as Paul dives to clear bedrock and check for gold. Expectations are high, but the results test morale. Convinced they’re close to the pay layer, Dustin and Danielle push downstream, tearing out boulders and chasing bottom. A last-minute dive reveals the truth — and a hint of gold that changes the plan. Repairs, long days, and unfinished business set the stage for the next dive. The gold hunt is far from over!
Hard days on the creek start paying off as we push deeper toward bedrock. Diving reveals more boulders in the way, which means more digging before we can fully open up the pay. We stockpile material while Paul and Wes setup the wash plant with a new hopper and improved spray bars. We start feeding it steady with the excavators, and fine tune it as we go. Day after day, the gold keeps showing up. By the final day, it all leads to a weigh-in that proves the grind is working — and we’re not done yet.
Just when we think we’re closing in on the gold, the creek has other plans. Hot weather, raging water, and zero visibility slow us down as we try to finish a hole that’s been years in the making. We wait it out, make a supply run, and get back to it — and Paul’s next dive proves there’s still gold hiding below. The creek may fight us, but we don’t quit!
