小出拓史が監督・脚本を務め、プロットはリトル・マーメイドに似ており、人間に愛されることを求める若い人魚の物語です。死後、彼は200年後の未来（現代日本）に生まれ変わり、人間界に適応し、望みを叶える。

Sayonara Lara s’inspire librement du célèbre roman La Petite Sirène de Hans Christian Andersen. Ce conte suit une sirène qui émet le vœu interdit d’être aimée par un humain. Après sa mort, elle renaît 200 ans plus tard dans le Japon moderne, au lac Biwa, où elle doit apprendre à s’adapter au monde humain en tant qu’adolescente. Le cadre du lac Biwa, situé dans la préfecture de Shiga au Japon, est également le lieu d’origine du réalisateur Takushi Koide.
