Die Ärztin Lucia Salinger (Brigitte Hobmeier) zieht mit ihrer Familie in das Tiroler Bergdorf Rotten, dem Heimatort ihres Ehemanns Matthi (Robert Stadlober). Ihre zehnjährige Tochter Alma (Laeni Geiseler) leidet an starkem Asthma, und die Bergluft soll ihre Krankheit lindern. Lucia hat dafür ihre Karriere im Krankenhaus aufgegeben und Matthi sein Hipster-Café in Wien geschlossen.
Doch der Neustart verläuft holprig. Klimawandel-bedingt bleibt der Schnee aus, und der Wintersportort leidet. Matthis Eltern, Bruno (Karl Fischer) und Maria (Maria Hofstätter) Hofer, sind die größten Hoteliers im Dorf und wollen die Situation so nicht akzeptieren. Bruno, der Patriarch von Rotten, will einen Bergrücken sprengen lassen, um eine neue Gondelstation zu bauen, die den Tourismus ankurbeln soll. Die Wogen im Dorf gehen hoch, und vor allem die junge Valentina (Marie-Luise Stockinger) wehrt sich gegen Brunos Pläne.
Lucia, Matthi et leurs deux enfants, Alma et Jonas, emménagent dans le village natal du père de famille. Ils ont quitté Vienne pour les hauteurs du Tyrol, où les parents de Matthi tiennent un grand hôtel, dans l’espoir d’y soigner l’asthme de leur fille. Mais à peine arrivée, Lucia est désorientée par l’atmosphère étrange qui règne dans le village. La première nuit, Alma voit une femme se glisser jusqu’à la fenêtre de sa chambre pour lui remettre une bague… Les jours suivants, elle est obnubilée par cette apparition. Selon la description de la fillette, il pourrait s’agir de Marianne, une jeune militante écologiste disparue quarante ans plus tôt…
Doctor Lucia Salinger (Brigitte Hobmeier) moves with her family to the Tyrolean mountain village of Rotten, the hometown of her husband Matthi (Robert Stadlober). Her ten-year-old daughter Alma (Laeni Geiseler) suffers from severe asthma, and the mountain air is supposed to alleviate her illness. Lucia gave up her career in the hospital and Matthi closed his hipster café in Vienna. But the restart is bumpy. Due to climate change, there is no snow, and the winter sports resort suffers. Matthia's parents, Bruno (Karl Fischer) and Maria (Maria Hofstätter) Hofer, are the largest hoteliers in the village and do not want to accept the situation as it is. Bruno, the patriarch of Rotten, wants to have a mountain ridge blown up in order to build a new gondola station that will boost tourism. The waves in the village are running high, and young Valentina (Marie-Luise Stockinger) in particular is resisting Bruno's plans.
