We meet E.W.Ziffren, a film maker, shooting a documentary about the Baker family of Sherman Oaks, California. Dr. Baker runs an advertisement for penile enlargement, but Elena alters the ad to include the phrase, "Let the African Experience be yours." Tyler sees the ad and is greatly offended. Tiffany wants to start a doggie sweater business, and Sheila's husband wants a penis enlargement. Kenny somehow gets shot in the foot.
Kenny has had a wet dream about Newt Gingrich. The Virgin Mary appears in a tree in the Baker's yard, and soon pilgrims flock to the house. Beverly arranges a massage for Sanford, but Elena arranges for it to be a ""gay"" massage.
Tiffany gets a job as a waitress in a coffee shop where she meets Mr. Duckworth, an old Hippie. Sanford tries to open a jammed cupboard and it accidentally hits Beverly in the face. Elena calls the police to report this ""abuse."" Officers Kac and Myles arrive. Kac, an abused woman herself, does not believe that Beverly was hurt in an accident. Kenny has the hots for Kac.
The Bakers have new neighbors who just happen to be Satanists. Sanford discovers that his golf game is much better after he has sex with Beverly. Elena tells the new neighbors that Tiffany is a virgin. Tiffany and Kenny visit the neighbors.
The family is not happy that Tiffany is entering a bikini contest at a bar. Doctor's cousin, Anthony is visiting and cannot figure out the Bakers. Tiffany has a lesbian coach, Leni, for the contest, and Elena leads Leni to believe Beverly is interested in her.
Tyler brings his black girlfriend, Sheryl, to dinner. Sanford encourages Beverly to do some investing on her own. She hires Tasha as an advisor, and Tasha has the hots for Sanford. Tiffany is getting into cyber sex. And Sanford joins Father Bob's male support group.
Beverly is traumatized because her hairdresser Darnell has a stroke, and he is the only one who knows the secret ingredients to her hair color. Also, Tyler is awarded a scholarship to Porter College, but the scholarship is reserved for black students. So, Elena calls the college and disguises herself as a black woman, inviting someone from the school over to the house to interview Tyler. Sheila is also no fun to Sanford because she believes her ""cells are dying,"" so Sanford considers leaving her.
Beverly has Master Fong coming to realign the house. Shelia is furious because Sanford doesn't buy her gifts. Kenny wants to become a priest. Doctor moves in and starts fighting with Tyler. Tiffany begins selling edible body lotion. Elena is interested in Master Fong.
Tyler and his rapper friends have a shot at a recording contract. Kenny has an erection that will not go away. Tiffany goes into charity work and becomes a pen pal to a prisoner. The Baker's neighbor, Fred, is trying to sell his house and does not like the black people hanging out.
Sanford's business is down. Tiffany has graduated from a marketing class and wants to help promote Dr. Baker's practice. Kenny gets a job for a right wing gun magazine. Beverly is taking care of her Shaman's cat, but Elena lets it get away. Tiffany offers to promote the gun magazine and Kenny's boss has the hots for her.
Tiffany fears she may be pregnant and Kenny fears he is adopted. Beverly is on an all juice diet. Tyler wants to play the blues, but Doctor wants to rap. Beverly's diet leads her to believe Sanford is Al Pacino.
Dr. Baker and Shelia question their relationship. Tyler is depressed because he fears he cannot rap. Beverly's friend, Dwayne, visits. Kenny finds a prosthetic leg and seeks it's owner. Tiffany gets a psychic phone sex job. Dwayne channels an ancient spirit and becomes possessed.
Elena helps Tiffany with her phone sex business. Beverly tries to save Dwanye as he channels various personalities. Dwanye becomes possessed by an old blues player and he joins with Tyler and Doctor. Kenny searches the internet for the owner of the leg. Elena thinks Dwanye is faking and encourages him to sacrifice Sanford.
The second season brings about a few changes for the Baker clan. The Bakers get a new house, a new maid, a new nephew living with them, and Sanford gets a new and sexier mistress. A quake destroyed their first house. Son Kenny is off to military school, and Elena the maid hit it big playing the lottery and left to open a bail bonds business. Sanford admits to the family that he is a registered republican and considers running for the state legislature. Daughter Tiffany takes a job as a dominitrix.
The Bakers are visited by Haji, whom they sponsored over the years as a starving child from India. Now Haji wants to become a plastic surgeon like Sanford. Tyler wears black make-up to meet black girls, but meets one who wears coke-bottle glasses. Tiffany works as a sexual surrogate, and meets a man offering $10,000 to whoever can solve his problems with impotence. Haji catches Verna stripped to the waist, and in the process of seducing Sanford.
The Bakers have new neighbors, who turn out to be porno movie makers. Beverly Sanford organizes feminist protests against the porno makers and is joined by Billy's scouting club. The new neighbor's wife, Kelly Sinatra befriends Tiffany with the idea of trying to seduce Tiffany and get her to be in their porn films. An altercation occurs, and Tiffany and Kelly having a catfight on the set of Kelly's porn movie.
Billy is protesting at an abortion clinic where he meets a young pregnant woman. He thinks the Bakers can take her in and he can adopt the child. Tyler and Doctor try to do standup comedy, but Tyler bombs. Sanford is asked to donate bone marrow to a sick relative, his cousin Cal.
A mountain lion is loose in Sherman Oaks and Billy is arming himself to hunt the lion. Tyler gets himself a gold tooth. Sanford meets Sandy, an overweight woman who wants to be more than friends. Tiffany is dating one of Sanford's penis enlargement patients.
Tiffany wants a job and decides to try pottery. Dr. Baker hires Doctor to paint his office. Doctor runs into Verna at Dr. Baker's office, and gets an eyefull! Billy gets hooked on drugs and Maxwell tries to buy Verna a fur coat.
Billy thwarts a robbery at a convenience store and becomes a local hero. Tiffany's wild friend, Peace carries on a wild affair with Tyler.
Beverly recommends that her friend Dottie go in for a facelift at Dr. Baker's office. But tradgedy strikes, and she passes away during the procedure. Tyler joins a black power group headed by the charismatic, albeit crazy, Brother Clarence. Billy is even impressed by Clarence's non-threatening nature. Sanford, who is plagued by feelings of guilt over the death of one of his patients, goes off the edge and considers becoming a beach bum, until he meets a man named Trust. Tiffany meets a guy who has not yet determined his own sexuality.
Beverly is very horny and is pressing Sanford to have lots more sex with her than usual. Because of all this extra sex with his wife, he is not up to his usual levels with Verna. Verna suspects that Beverly is taking hormones to get pregnant. Tiffany is hired by a painter who wants her to pose nude for him, and his painting class. Billy starts his own radio station and finds some white supremacists are big fans, but the lines get crossed and Tyler listens in on the broadcast over the telephone while ordering pizzas. Verna is unhappy that Sanford is having lots of sex with Beverly, who is enjoying her new state of horniness, because it makes her feel more like a woman.
