    Mr. Phillips tries to get all the hotel staff to donate a pint of blood to the Red Cross blood drive. The only hold-outs are Jose and Glick- both are chicken.

    Jose is on cloud nine when his idol Danny Thomas checks into the Park Central. Danny just wants to be treated like any ordinary guest, but Jose insists on giving him the best, which only causes misery for poor sleep-deprived Danny.

    Mr. Phillips and the hotel chain chairman, Mr. Bennington, are all set to fire Glick and Jose after Glick orders an arsenal of World War II surplus weapons, supposedly for the hotel's defense. The laughing gas, however, may save Glick's and Jose's jobs.

    An old man talks soft-hearted Jose into taking in the man's baby. When the "baby" turns out to be an elephant, Jose and Glick try to "gaslight" Mr. Phillips, who won't allow pets in the hotel, into thinking he's hallucinating. The elephant, however, proves be a profitable gimmick for the hotel.

    When Mr. Phillips refuses to let Jose use the hotel Crystal Room for Jose's cousin Maria's wedding, Jose hints he might want to do away with himself. Then when Jose goes out on a ledge to retrieve a kitten, Mr. Phillips thinks Jose really intends to jump.

    Jose is charged as a flower thief when he is spotted by a policeman returning flowers that had been stolen by a little old lady. When the case goes to court, Glick acts as Jose's defense- but with a defense like that, Jose could do without a prosecution.

    Jose talks Mr. Phillips into ghost-writing a love letter to a girl in Jose's correspondence club whom Jose has never met. When Mrs. Phillips sees one of the letters on the table, she thinks Mr. Phillips is seeing another woman. It's a big shock when they all meet Jose's "girlfriend".

    The doctor gives Jose the word: his tonsils have to come out. But José says no-he's too chicken, setting a bad example for Mr. Phillips' nephew, who also needs his tonsils out. Glick encourages Jose to have it done, until finding that he, too, needs his tonsils out.
