Tim Jamieson is an ex-cop who was forced out of his job following an incident in which he shot a 16-year old boy who was carrying a rifle. Following this, he hitchhikes a ride and finds himself in a small town off the beaten path, where he applies for the job of night knocker. Once on the job, he finds himself swept in a series of strange incidents that ultimately lead him to The Institute.
