  • S01E01 Enter the Lone Ranger

    John Reid, the sole surviving Texas Ranger of a murderous ambush, becomes the great masked hero with his companion, Tonto.

    Part 2 of the Lone Ranger origin reveals how the masked man finds his horse, Silver; and how he came to use silver bullets. Tonto is sent into town to "fetch the sheriff" for the first time. Skeptical at first, the local sheriff is later convinced the Lone Ranger is on the side of law and order. It seems an old family friend of the Ranger's, Jim Blane, is being blamed for the shooting of a local judge. The real killer, Butch Cavendish, has been wounded by Blaine, and has had his men kidnap the town doctor to heal the outlaw. The sheriff and The Ranger track down the gang, and a fight ensues. The sheriff has them rounded up and the Lone Ranger slips away (also for the first time). But just then, the rest of the Cavendish gang ride in, getting the drop on the sheriff and the doctor, and taking them away. The Lone Ranger sees this and chases after the villain with a hearty "Hi-Ho Silver Away!"

    The conclusion of the Lone Ranger origin story. After rescuing sherrif "Two Gun" Taylor, and Doc Drummond from Butch Cavendish, the Ranger learns his arch enemy has been killing off important men in the town of Colby, and replacing them with members of his gang. Using the Doc as a decoy, The Lone Ranger, Tonto, and the sheriff round up the Cavendish gang one by one. Finally, the Ranger chases after Cavendish himself, and has one final showdown with his brother's killer. And true to his vow, he doesn't kill the outlaw, but just shoots the gun from his hand, and takes him to jail. Once Cavendish is locked up, the Lone Ranger and Tonto ride away before they can be thanked. And the outlaw himself becomes the first of 219 people to ask, "Who was that masked man?"

Enter Dusty, Jeff Barnes and another couple of men. The Lone Ranger lets everybody get away except Dusty who is missing a spur. Tonto overhears that the spur was planted. Lone Ranger, Tonto and Dusty go to Barnes' ranch and the Lone Ranger hears that Barnes has the missing gold in his cellar. The Lone Ranger and Barnes fight it out in the cellar. Any guess who wins?

The Lone Ranger talks ""Indian talk"" to Charlie under the noses of the gang, and tells Charlie to pretend to be shot. They get the drop on the gang, and Mary is proud of Charlie.

After an introduction by Moore, the footage follows the Lone Ranger to Washington, D.C. where he is shown as he met the Director of the Savings Bond Division James F. Stiles and later (in photographs) with Vice President Richard Nixon and Postmaster General Arthur Summerfield. Other scenes show the Lone Ranger at the National Institute of Health, the Capitol, and at a Peace Patrol rally at the Washington Monument where he spoke to the crowd and performed gun handling tricks.
