אי שם בלב אזור התעשיה של יהוד שוכן משרד אפור ומשמים - סניף כושל של חברה לאספקת ציוד משרדי בשם "פייפר-אופיס". את הסניף מנהל גיבור הסדרה אבי משולם - לוזר בן 40 בעל בעיות דימוי עצמי חמורות שגורמות לו להיות שקרן, חנפן ואדם בלתי נסבל. סגנו ויד ימינו הוא יריב שאולי - עוף מוזר, ילדותי אך רציני להחריד, חולה צבא, מרוכז בעצמו ולא במפתיע - כישלון חברתי מזעזע. מולו יושב יוסי, הבחור הטוב של המשרד ובין השפויים היחידים בסביבה. הדבר היחיד שמשאיר אותו בחברה היא אהבתו לדנה, מזכירת הקבלה המאורסת לעובד מחסן.
