Tony and Doug arrive near the Italian-Austrian Alps on October 23, 1915, as the Germans are preparing to bombard the area. An explosion knocks them out and uncovers the stone coffin of Emperor Nero. Nero's sword floats out of it, but kills a German soldier. They awaken and discover they are beneath the villa of Count Galba. He claims the two travelers are American friends, covering for them against the invading Germans. The ghost of Nero has other ideas, and wants to kill Galba, whose ancestor was responsible for Nero's death. First a German soldier then Tony are possessed by the ghost. The Time Tunnel project staff manage to free Tony with a high-powered electrical discharge on the recommendation of a Dr. Steinholtz, whom they call in. However, they then pull the ghost into the current day, but manage to send him back. Tony and Doug get Galba to safety and help lead the Italian resistance to the Germans. The German leader, Neistadt, flees but Nero's ghost delays him long enough for an

Tony és Doug egy antik villa pincéjében találja magát, az olasz Alpok kellős közepén, miközben odakint dúl az első világháború. Ám nincsenek egyedül: egy felnyíló szarkofágból kísérteties alak bújik elő. Nero szelleme az, aki még a sírban sem nyughatik, míg bosszúja be nem teljesedik uralmának galád megdöntője, Galba fölött. Erre most jó esélye van, hisszen a villa tulajdonosa, Galba gróf, a trónt megdöntő római hadvezér kései leszármazottja. A két időutazónak sikerül megvédeni az öreg grófot a bosszúálló szellemtől, amely megpróbál alakot ölteni, s hol ellenséges német katona, hol Tony bőrébe bújik, míg meg nem találja igazi gazdáját egy kövérkés olasz káplár személyében, akit úgy hívnak, hogy Benito Mussollini...
Tony e Doug arrivano in Italia, il 23 Ottobre 1915, poco prima di un bombardamento. Una violenta esplosione li mette fuori combattimento e scoperchia un'antica tomba, liberando lo spirito dell'Imperatore Nerone. Ripresi i sensi, i due scienziati scoprono di trovarsi nella villa del Conte Galba. Di fronte ai soldati tedeschi che si sono appropriati della lussuosa abitazione, il nobiluomo dichiara che i due americani sono suoi ospiti. Il fantasma di Nerone però vuole approfittare della sua libertà per uccidere il conte Galba, discendente di quel Servio Sulpicio Galba che fu la causa della sua morte...
Tony y Doug deben luchar contra el vengativo fantasma de Nerón durante un combate entre italianos y alemanes durante la I Guerra Mundial.
