    • June 20, 2013

Sorry about the audio guys, This was way back when i was making videos completely on my cellphone! I used 90% methanol 10% h20 as a solvent. That final product was 10ml of capsaicin oil, I put some on a toothpick and it burned my lips for 20 minutes D: What else can i do with this interesting piece of equipment?

  • S2013E19 How to make an electric match/detonator (squib) [Pingpong balls and Flashpowder/blackpowder]

    • June 20, 2013

In this video we make electric matches to safely detonate our experiments. You should aim for a 95-5% ratio of your propellent to nitrocellulose (pingpong balls). a pingpong ball weighs 2g, so use about 50g of powder. We used half that and it works great. The steel wool is sensitive enough to glow red hot through 100ft of wire with a battery.

  • S2013E20 Black powder cannon tests

    • June 21, 2013

We made a cannon that fires water bottles. Why you ask? Why not!?! Using 1-2 ounces of blackpowder, and 10-16oz of water. If we filled the bottles up all the way they exploded :/

  • S2013E21 Exploding Arrows with compound bow! [Arrow filled with black powder, capped w/ shotgun primer]

    • June 27, 2013

This is our first attempt at exploding arrows, we probably used a half ounce of black powder in the arrow itself. It was a carbon arrow. We removed the tip and replaced it with a large shotgun primer. I saw these first in the anarchists cookbook about 15 years ago. The bang was rather satisfying.. probably doing it again soon!

  • S2013E22 Powerful Golf Ball cannon! [Black Powder in a 1.75" fiberglass tube]

    • June 27, 2013

This cannon was pretty extreme. It shot a golf ball at speeds approaching the speed of sound and has some SERIOUS power. We typically used around 1 ounce of powder charge, enough to propel the ball clear through a bucket, and into the dirt. Electrical ignition was not bothered with, used long fuses instead. Your right Chemcam, it is a PITA :P

  • S2013E23 Just a small teaser of my microwave cannon...

  • S2013E27 MICROWAVE CANNON! A High Energy Radio Frequence gun. (700 watts)

    • July 25, 2013

Hey guys, in this video I show you how I built my microwave gun, also known as a HERF gun. I take a magnetron out of the oven and connect it to a waveguide. The results were more than I expected! FIRST- Microwaves are not "dangerous". They do not have enough energy to damage DNA and cause cancer. The only risk is thermal burns, which are unlikely because you are 70% water and have a high heat capacity. Cataracts may happen if you stare into the beam, and there is a good chance you will fry your

  • S2013E28 Make a Violent fireball and smokebomb with pool shock and brake fluid.!

    • July 27, 2013

For more information and reaction mechanisms, look at the link below. www.sciencemadness.org/talk/files.php?pid=75149&aid=1734‎ PEG is chosen as a hydraulic brake fluid for its very high boiling point. Usually over 400f. So this is a very exothermic reaction! Something I noticed. If the hypochlorite or brake fluid contains an appreciable amount of water you will not get a fire, instead you will get a very thick white smoke that is probably toxic.

Pouring molten aluminum in a watermelon turned out to be really popular, So I poured aluminum in two more melons, honeydew and cantaloupe. It turned out really cool, giving a perfect cast of the inside of a melon. It looked just like a hand grenade! https://www.facebook.com/TheBackyardScientistOfficial

  • S2015E22 Ping Pong ball filled with liquid nitrogen? Insane Speed!

    • September 20, 2015

I was on Reddit yesterday, and I saw a cool GIF on r/woahdude. It looked so cool I had to do it. Also people were debating on how fast the ball was really spinning, and I had to find out for myself so I grabbed my camera that can shoot up to 1000fps. The original poster estimated the speed at 10,000 rpm, but the ball was really spinning 30,000 rpm in my experiments!

  • S2015E23 Ping Pong ball filled with Propane spins and EXPLODES

    • October 12, 2015

What happens when you fill a ping pong ball with extremely flammable propane, then light it on fire? Does it spin really fast, or make a cool noise, or explode? The answer is yes! Last video, I made a mistake. I forgot to set one of these on fire! Well thats kinda my thing, so today I set out to fill a pingpong ball with propane and set it on fire. I used a hose with a 20ga needle on the end to pump propane directly into the ping pong ball. I put a torch on my wooden bench and threw gas fille

  • S2015E24 Steel Wool on a DRONE

    • October 29, 2015

You have probably heard of steel wool before. You can burn it and swing it around to create amazing sparks and effects. I thought it would be fun to attach steel wool to a drone and fly it around a beach at night. It turned our really cool. I also attached sparklers to the drone and flew it around. Sparklers last way longer than steel wool, and im sure everybody on the beach was impressed as It flew down the shore.

  • S2015E25 Pouring molten Aluminum into a Pumpkin (cooled with liquid nitrogen!!!)

    • October 31, 2015

The inside of a pumpkin has a pretty interesting geometry. I had the idea to cast the inside to see what it looks like, but the inside of the pumpkin is very fragile and the 1000 degree aluminum pretty much destroys it as soon as it comes in contact with the soft flesh. I thought freezing the pumpkin would provide more structural support, so I froze the pumpkin from the inside out with liquid nitrogen. My thermometer can only measure to -36f (-38c), and the pumpkin was colder than that. Liquid

You can watch their video here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRmkv30STSc All you need to make these fireballs is cornstarch. Just grab a hand full and blow it onto a flame. This is probably the safest way to blow fire...Just remember to blow hard enough to keep the fireball away from your face! • November 30, 2015

He wanted to know if a hot object will fall faster than a cold object through water. I set up my fishtank and dropped red-hot steel balls through water to see if they fall faster. This would be a great science fair project if you don't burn down your house.

    • December 31, 2015

Today I make a REAL hoverboard out of dry ice! It doesn't lift you high into the air like back to the future, but it perfectly emulates the feeling! Its just a wooden board with a rim around the edge to hole 3 blocks of dry-ice in place. As the dry ice sublimates, the pressure from the expanding gas is enough greatly reduce surface friction and you can glide on any smooth surface. The wood floor in this video was far from perfect, but it did the job pretty well! I would consider this a real hov

After struggling with my mega-microwave I decided to have some fun. I got 4 gallons of bulk glue for mouse traps because I was curious if a person could escape from a human-sized glue trap. I never saw anybody try it before so I was curious. At first I thought about getting a few hundred of the regular sized glue traps from the store and stapling them to the plywood but decided the bulk glue would be more economical and cover more surface area. It was not a cool color like the stuff in the

  • S2018E08 Do Not try to charge a LiPo Battery like this!

    • November 18, 2018

This is what happens when you ignore the warnings on a Lithium (LiPo) Battery. First I tried Disassembling the battery to learn about it. Then I tried shocking the battery with a tesla coil. Surprisingly that did not work, so I connected it to a car battery to overcharge it and it worked great. Of course, by working great i mean it caught on fire. Finally I incinerated the battery with a 30W infrared laser in a fishtank filled with 100% pure oxygen.
