Nancy, die Tochter des Schaffners, bringt Skarloey auf Hochglanz. Aber Duncan sieht das gar nicht gern und ist sehr eifersüchtig. Als Skarloey schließlich zurück auf die Gleise fährt, soll Duncan ihm helfen. Aber der ist eingeschnappt und miesmuffelig, so dass er sogar die Passagiere verärgert.
Skarloey is delighted to hear the news that Rheneas is coming home from the menders. Nancy, the guard's daughter, is planning a 'welcome home' party for him; and because of this, she hasn't had time to polish Duncan. This makes Duncan very cross indeed and causes a great deal of trouble...
Duncan complains about not getting a polish while the passengers and other engines get such luxuries. He gets so cross that he decides, "No polish means no passengers."
