天光（郭晉安飾）是重案組的CID，為人剛直不阿黑白分明。在追查一宗連環殺人案時，發現疑凶竟是二十年前從父親手上逃脫的犯人。天光父親大河（許紹雄飾）是一名資質平庸的警察，且粗心大意不思上進，不僅讓罪犯逃走，更是死在妓女床上，讓天光母子蒙受巨大屈辱。以寫作實況小說知名的作家高珊（陳慧珊飾）此次亦追踪著天光手上的案件，二人對案件的不同理解造成摩擦，紛紛競逐真相。　　一日，天光發現父親的舊電話神奇響起，對方聲稱自己是警察，只是所說所講都停留在八十年代。細問起才發現那竟是二十年前的父親大河！二人合作無間，跨越兩個時空，共同追查真兇。
