本劇記述沒落王孫鐵木真如何排除萬難，振興家業，成為統一蒙古的大英雄，“成吉思汗”乞顏部的的鐵木真被仇家追殺，幸得赤老溫及合達安所救，鐵木真脫險後，尋回族人，與弟合撒兒重整家園，誓要振興乞顏部。仇人接二連三攻擊鐵木真，奪去其妻孛兒貼。鐵木真得結義兄弟札木合及義父別里相助，救回妻子，經此一役，鐵木真聲勢日盛，勢力日漸龐大，與札木合、別里合稱“草原三雄”。
