Now that Joy has completed her education, she's ready to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse and follow in her late mother's footsteps. Back at home before the holiday and with no job on the horizon, Joy's interest is piqued by a volunteer opportunity out of town. There, she meets Eric, who is also at a crossroads. Joy et Eric s'apprêtent à entrer dans la vie active mais les choix sont difficiles à faire. Afin de prendre le temps de la réflexion, ils s'inscrivent dans un programme caritatif pendant la période des fêtes de Noël. Sur place, les hasards se multiplient et ils tombent amoureux au premier regard. Mais Joy a un petit ami. Lorsqu'elle l'avoue à Eric au bout de deux semaines, celui-ci réagit assez mal.
