The science of archaeology has experienced a revolution in recent decades due to the applications of new technologies to recovered artifacts, which has been wonderful for almost everyone involved. Sadly, that does not include people who have bought apparently important artifacts in The Holy Land from sources without academic providence, and it has proven to be a major embarrassment to the expert scholars who have authenticated them. When new scientific investigation invalidated the authenticity of both a stone tablet reputed to have come from Solomon's Temple and an ossuary inscribed with the name of James, brother of Jesus, suddenly everything without archaeological provenance was open for reevaluation. In a region where many people hold belief more important than fact, how will honest antiquarians ever be able to trust again?
