Why Women Love

Molla Hansen, the daughter of the captain of an oil schooner. Molla has made plans to marry Captain Rodney O'Malley when she returns from a voyage with her father, but the ship burns at sea. She is saved by a lighthouse keeper named Silas Martin, who dies from his wounds, and in gratitude, she cares for the man's daughter, Pearl. O'Malley, believing Molla to be dead, goes on a two-year voyage. Charley Watts, a rum-runner, seduces Pearl, who tries to blame her pregnancy on an innocent man – Ira Meers. Then she learns that Watts is married, and she turns on the gas in the lighthouse, and locks him in the lighthouse tower, fills it with gas, and hurls a lighted lantern at him. Pearl and Watts are killed, but Ira recovers. The explosion signals Rod's ship, and he and Molla are reunited. This picture was adapted from the play by Willard Robertson.
