主人公の名前は宝福喜朗。おめでたい名の通り、人の良い退職間近の中年男。そんな普通の男が過ごす、普通でない年越しの2日間。始まりは、新年初売りの福袋を買うために行列に並んだことだった。大晦日から新年2日の48時間、喜朗と、彼の家族、更に行列に並ぶ人々に巻き起こるのは普通でない出来事ばかり。例えば、その行列はある誘拐事件の身代金２億円の受け渡し場所だったり、また隣にはバッグに包丁をしのばせる若い女がいたり、更には行列の近くで轢き逃げ事件が起きたり…。 たった48時間の中で恋や事件に遭遇する喜朗が、くせ者揃いの行列の人々と共にするのは喜びか？悲しみか？
