月のある日、32歳の黒崎依子は東京・白金の実家から離れて小さなアパートで一人暮らしを始める。ところが、仕事がなく恋人も友達もいない依子は何もすることがないため、ド派手な格好のバツイチ女性と無職の男性が暮らす隣の部屋の会話を壁越しに盗み聞きするだけの怠惰な日々を送る。そんな中、依子の部屋に“田中靖夫”という見知らぬ人物からの手紙が投函される。たまに訪ねて来る妹にもその無気力ぶりをあきれられ、忘れられない元カレを訪ねていくも困惑され追い返されてしまう。依子の元には、その後も“田中靖夫”からの手紙が届き続けて…
