任職警界的戴展碩（古天樂飾），做事得過且過，其被動、消極的態度為警犬Rocky所鄙視，更處處刁難他，教他吃盡不少若頭。後Rocky在一次行動中受傷，碩於心不忍，決定收養牠。 展碩鄰居文穎朗（宣萱飾）為愛犬之人，對展碩待犬隻的態度極之不滿，因此當愛犬東東失蹤時，穎朗認定乃展碩所為，二人關係勢成水火。時一隻自來狗豆豆突然出現，彌補了穎朗的傷痕。不料，Rocky竟與豆豆共墮愛河，但見主人互不瞅睬，兩隻精靈狗兒頓覺頭痛！ 穎朗好友歐子珊（鄭秀文飾）乃展碩的房東，初與展碩針鋒相對，後在失戀失業時，得展碩鼓勵幫助，二人不知不覺間發展成情侶。子珊轉工後獲新上司賞識，郤因專注工作與展碩漸生磨擦，終分手收場。展碩在子珊離港進修後，助穎朗收養被遺棄的小動物，二人日久生情。一年後，子珊學成歸來，穎朗無意中發現她對展碩仍未忘情，驚覺自己橫刀奪愛，內心矛盾，不知如何抉擇…
