大大的脑袋，顶着三根头发，普通人家的小孩三毛原本拥有幸福的童年，然而战争却让他沦为无依无靠的孤儿。没有父母的孩子连黄狗、乌鸦都欺负得，危难时刻他得到了善良的打鱼老伯的救助，体会到了久违而短暂的幸福。好景不长，恶霸抢走他们的劳动果实，匪兵又残忍枪杀老伯。可怜的三毛再度沦为孤儿，在坟头跪别老伯后，瘦小的男孩漫无目的行走，辗转便来到了大都会上海。他梦想能在这座富庶先进的大城市里吃饱饭，可是此刻正值军阀、投机商人、大资本家、外国人、青帮流氓、骗子横行的旧社会，等待他的将会是什么……
