이야기는 마을에서 일어나는 신비한 사건을 파헤치는 두 명의 형사를 중심으로 전개됩니다. 드라마는 그 사건들과 책 속 인물들을 한국인의 정서에 맞게 재해석해 인간 본성의 추악한 면모를 보여줄 예정이다. 고정우는 어렸을 때 의과대학 조기 합격자 명단에 오를 만큼 똑똑했다. 수능을 보고 여행을 떠났지만 그날 이후로 살인마가 되어버렸다. 출소 후 고향으로 돌아온 그는 11년 전의 일을 마주한다.
