Jim Phelps und sein Team müssen diesmal in Südamerika aktiv werden, wo in einem kleinen, demokratisch regierten Staat der Kampf um einen Inka-Schatz entbrannt ist: Ein Kleinganove namens Jack Cole wurde bei dem Versuch, den Schatz zu stehlen, erwischt und wird nun brutal von Oberst Cardoza verhört. Doch der hohe Militär ist in Wahrheit selbst an dem Gold der Inkas interessiert. Jim gibt sich nun als international bekannter Hehler aus, der mit Cardoza Kontakt aufnehmen will...

The country of Santales sold a collection of Incan gold artifacts to save its economy, which were stolen by Jack Cole. Cole's accomplices are killed and Colonel Cardoza of Santales is in charge of extracting the location of the artifacts from Cole. However, Cardoza is a tratiro who plans to take the artifacts and leave Santales in financial ruin. The IMF must both recover the treasure and expose Cardoza. Phelps goes in as Cardoza's fence, and plots with the Colonel to get Cole to reveal the treasure. Phelps is thrown in with Cole, and they manage to escape thanks to Cardoza's set-up with Jim. Jim "kills" Rollin (disguised as an Indian) for his horses, and the Rollin reports to Cardoza's superior, General Diaz, that Cardoza is the one looking for the trasure. Cole takes Phelps and Cardoza to the trasure, and Cardoza kills Cole. As Diaz's men close in, Jim leaves via a helicopter, leaving Cardoza to try and explain why he has the treasure and was working with Cole.

Le pays de Santales met en vente une collection d'objets incas dans le but de renflouer les caisses de l'Etat. Ces objets, d'une grande valeur, sont bientôt volés par un dénommé Jack Cole, dont les complices sont également assassinés. Le colonel Cardoza s'empare de Cole, mais Cardoza est en fait un traître, dont le plan est de s'approprier les richesses de Santales et de s'enfuir du pays. Phelps est chargé d'intervenir et de retrouver le trésor au plus vite. Les choses ne se passent pas exactement comme prévu quand il est jeté en prison. Là, il retrouve tout de même Cole, avec qui il devient ami...

Jack Cole fue arrestado y encarcelado por robar objetos de arte de una nación latinoamericana. La misión de Phelps y su equipo es recuperar los objetos robados, pero eso no será fácil... Cole está en prisión y es torturado por el coronel que la dirige, un traidor que quiere el tesoro para sí mismo.

奪われた財宝を取り戻すため、財宝の隠し場所を知る囚人を逃がす作戦に出たIMFチーム。囚人を逃すことには成功するが、彼の視力は徐々に失われていく。
