The Heart of Italy, a Journey from Florence to Rome

Starting in Florence and its sunbaked landscape of terracotta rooftops, we move swiftly west to Pisa, and its famous leaning tower. From here we zigzag south-east through a series of unique medieval towns, including Siena and Montepulciano, before arriving at the dramatic cathedral at Assisi. After this it is south and west across the rolling hills of the Umbrian countryside, heading through Orvieto and the opulent villas of the Villa Lante and the Villa Farnese. Hill top villages scatter the region as we travel to the mountains of Lazio and Abruzzo. After a quick look at the impressive St Benedict’s monastery at Subiaco, we continue onwards, passing the villa of Hadrian. Finally we arrive at Rome: a striking mix of modern and ancient and a truly magnificent city to behold.
