Jsou Vánoce, děti se těší na dárky, nejvíce Brendan na vláček. Frank i Carol na něj ovšem zapomněli. Proto se rozhodnou jej ještě vyzvednout - Frank předělává zařízení prodejny a tak od ní má klíče - jenže jsou "při činu" zatčeni a vsazeni do cely. Děti na Štědrý den rodiče nijak nepostrádají, až Cody, kterému se Frank konečně dovolá, je přiměje uvědomit si, o čem Vánoce jsou a jdou je navštívit. Na koledu pak Carol s Frankem pozvou i svého věznitele, šerifa Barneyho...
Weihnachten steht vor der Tür und die Kids denken nur noch an die Geschenke, die sie wollen. Brendan besteht auf einer Modelleisenbahn. Und ausgerechnet die fehlt am Weihnachtsabend vor der Bescherung. Frank hat eine glorreiche Idee: Er hat einen Spielzeugladen renoviert und hat noch die Schlüssel. Zusammen mit Carol steigt er nachts ein, holt die Eisenbahn für Brendan und will natürlich das Geld auf die Kasse legen. Doch Deputy Feif macht ihnen einen Strich durch die Rechnung. So landet das Paar zu Weihnachten im Knast, während die Kinder wie eine wilde Horde über die Geschenke herfällt und das Fehlen der Eltern zunächst gar nicht bemerken. Als sie von Franks und Carols Schicksal erfahren, besinnen sie sich doch noch und machen auch für Carol und Frank Weihnachten zum Fest der Freude.
After Carol presents an idea of exchanging fewer gifts, Frank announces he gets a 20% discount at Hartman's Toy Store because of his remodeling work there. Both believe one has picked up Brendan's train set and therefore, neither does. When they realize this on Christmas eve, they use Frank's key to get into the toy store and are leaving money in the register when Deputy Barney Feif notices them. They are taken to jail where they are detained. After the kids open all their presents without knowing where their parents were, Cody points out that Christmas should be about joy and loved ones. The kids realize their mistake, get concerned, and find out their parents are in jail. They bring food and caroling to the jail. Deputy Feif lets them out and they all go back home to celebrate Christmas, even Barney.
Avant les fêtes de Noël, Carol réunit son mari et ses six enfants pour leur annoncer que les revenus de cette année sont moins importants, et que par conséquent chaque enfant n'aura qu'un cadeau de Noël...
