Au début du XXe siècle est créée une brigade de police motorisée dirigée par le commissaire divisionnaire Faivre. Inspirée par Georges Clemenceau, à l'époque ministre de l'Intérieur et surnommé « le Tigre », elle prend le nom de Brigades du Tigre.
