Depuis 150 ans, les trains ont joué un rôle crucial dans les principaux conflits qui ont enflammé la planète. Bien plus qu´un simple moyen de transport, en temps de guerre, les trains sont en effet un élément essentiel de la machine de guerre - transport des troupes, prisons mobiles, hôpitaux de fortune... ou armes. Cette série, aussi surprenante qu´instructive, raconte une autre facette de l´histoire du chemin de fer, articulée autour d´aventures humaines dramatiques et fascinantes, de détails techniques et d´une perspective militaire. Les séquences présentées associent interviews, reconstitutions, représentations techniques et images d´archives et replacent dans leur contexte historique la Guerre de Sécession américaine, l´évacuation des blessés de la Première Guerre mondiale, la terreur nazie...
