Family Affair

William Davis (Brian Keith) ist ein gutbezahlter Ingenieur und eingefleischter Junggeselle. Er hat eine Wohnung in der 5th Avenue in Manhattan und einen klassischen englischen Butler. Aber dann sterben sein Bruder und dessen Frau bei einem Verkehrsunfall und hinterlassen drei Kinder: Die fünfzehnjährige Cissy (Kathy Garver) und die Zwillinge Buffy (Anissa Jones) und Jody (Johnny Whitacker). Und so wird aus William Davis Onkel Bill, der die drei bei sich aufnimmt. Aber ohne den ordnungsliebenden Butler Mr. French (Sebastian Cabot) wäre er mit der neuen Aufgabe gänzliche überfordert. Denn es kommt regelmäßig zu Turbulenzen. Immer wieder verschwindet Mrs. Beasley, die Puppe und beste Freundin von Buffy – und dann muß die ganze ‚Familie‘ suchen. Cissy kämpft gelegentlich mit Liebeskummer und manchmal bringen die drei Springinsfelde einfach nur alles durcheinander. Aber Onkel Bill und Mr. French meistern die Probleme immer wieder mit liebevollem Humor.

Family Affair was one of those successful family comedies of the 1960's. Bill Davis' carefree existence as a swinging bachelor was just about perfect. A highly paid consulting engineer, he maintained an elegant apartment off Fifth Avenue in Manhattan and had his domestic needs cared for by a very English gentleman's gentleman, Mr. French. Into this life of independence came three young orphans, the 6-year old twins Buffy and Jody and 15-year-old Cissy. Their parents, Bill's brother and sister-in-law, had died in an accident, and other relatives felt that Bill could best provide for them. Despite initial misgivings, Bill and French became very attached to the children and learned to adjust their lifestyle to make room for the new members of the household. Mr. French, a stickler for neatness and order, had the toughest adjustment to make, he was with the children all the time while Bill was often out of town on assignments. Après le décès de son frère et de sa belle-sœur, Bill Davis, un riche célibataire vivant à Manhattan, se voit confier la garde de ses trois neveux. En compagnie de son majordome, le débonnaire Mr French, il va découvrir la vie de famille et ses aléas...

L'ingegnere civile e scapolo Bill Davis tenta di allevare i bambini orfani di suo fratello Bob (morto in un incidente automobilistico circa un anno prima dell'ambientazione temporale del primo episodio) nel suo lussuoso appartamento di New York. Davis può contare sull'aiuto del signor Giles French, una sorta di maggiordomo, balia e tuttofare che condivide con il padrone di casa la responsabilità di prendersi cura della quindicenne Cissy e dei due gemelli di 6 anni Jody e Buffy. I cinque vivono al 600 della 62ª strada a Manhattan (l'indirizzo viene fornito da French quando iscrive Buffy e Jody alla scuola).
