Maetel abandoned her mother and her home planet, the doomed and frozen La Metal, where people must become cyborgs to survive. When she is beckoned to return, her options seem slim: follow her mother's path (and with it a robot mind and the contempt of all humans), or run away and fight with humans against the machines. Yet, she is not without comrades and defenders. If she can accept the friendship of beings of metal who desire peace, and oppose those who think being made of flesh and blood is enough to make one human, she may still have a chance to find her own path.
Maetel abandonó a su madre y su planeta natal, el condenado y congelado "La Metal", donde las personas deben convertirse en cyborgs para sobrevivir. Cuando se le pide que regrese, sus opciones parecen escasas: seguir el camino de su madre (y con ello la mente de un robot y el desprecio de todos los humanos), o escapar y luchar con los humanos contra las máquinas. Sin embargo, ella no está sin camaradas y defensores. Si ella puede aceptar la amistad de los seres de metal que desean la paz, y oponerse a aquellos que piensan que ser hechos de carne y hueso es suficiente para hacer que un humano sea humano, todavía puede tener la oportunidad de encontrar su propio camino.
