The Moomins (Swedish: mumintrollen) are the central characters in a series of novels, short stories, picture books, and a comic strip by Finnish writer and illustrator Tove Jansson, originally published in Swedish by Schildts in Finland. They are a family of white, round fairy-tale characters with large snouts that make them resemble the hippopotamus. However, despite this resemblance, the Moomin family are trolls. The family live in their house in Moominvalley.
『ムーミン』は、トーベ・ヤンソンの同名の小説『ムーミン』シリーズ、および彼女と末弟ラルス・ヤンソンの共著による『ムーミン・コミックス』を原作とした、日本のテレビアニメシリーズ。ムーミンが日本で広く知られるようになるきっかけとなった作品である。 企画制作は瑞鷹エンタープライズ。アニメーション制作は東京ムービー（Aプロダクション、1970年3月29日放送分（第26話）まで）、虫プロダクション（1970年4月5日放送分（第27話）より） 作風について、東京ムービー制作期は、ムーミンに月面旅行をさせる（月面にはウサギがいるという設定）などユニークな翻案が多い。また、虫プロダクション制作期に移ってからメルヘン度が高まったという。
