In the eleven years of "The Second Bug War", the Mobile Infantry (Starship Troopers) has improved their weapons and tactics, while the Bug (Starship Troopers) have countered by developing many new Arachnid variants. The Terran Federation (Starship Troopers) now finds itself engaged in prolonged trench warfare. The Federation puts out a positive spin through the media, while using its judicial and military authority to suppress peace protesters and religious fanatics.
On an asteroid, the Terran Federation (Starship Troopers)'s Fort Casey is crawling with bugs. The starship ''Alesia'' begins to deploy its Mobile Infantry (Starship Troopers)#The Mobile Infantry of The Terran Federation (Novel) troopers, by dropship, to seize and control the hangar and rescue any survivors. Lieutenant Daugherty's 'Alpha' team lands and immediately engages bugs, fighting through to rendezvous with the surviving Fort Casey troopers. After setting explosives charges, the troopers head to the starship ''John A. Warden'' for evacuation, only to see it leave dock without them—Minister Carl Jenkins has commandeered the ''Warden'' from Captain Carmen Ibanez, sending her to ''Alesia''. Before leaving, Jenkins orders that Major Henry "Hero" Varro, the commander of Fort Casey's K-12 troopers, be escorted to ''Alesia'' as a prisoner. ''Alesia'' docks with Fort Casey for emergency evacuation of the surviving troopers, and the Fort Casey asteroid is successfully destroyed.
After the events of Starship Troopers: Invasion, Johnny Rico has been demoted to the rank of colonel and relocated to a Martian space station to train a new batch of troopers. Unfortunately, his squad is incompetent. Mars overall has low support for the war, seeing their planet unaffected by the bug conflict and even suggesting pulling out from the war. Because of their laid back attitude, the denizens of Mars weren't ready when the bugs attacked. Unknown to everyone, Sky Marshal Amy Snapp executes her plans for power.
As a newly assigned member of the mobile infantry unit Razak's Roughnecks, Main Character and soldier stud Johnny Rico finds himself in the middle of an interstellar war against a race of highly advanced insects intent on wiping out humanity. He and other Starship Troopers must find a way to destroy the gigantic bugs and save the earth, and a lot of soldiers will be lost during this struggle. Johnny Rico is the best Trooper on the force, he is the go to guy when needed (which is all the time). He has all the statistics straight and plans ready to order.
