言葉を話す二輪車エルメスを相棒に、世界をめぐる旅人キノは、
人々が巨大なドームで暮らしている国を訪れる。
キノは、そこで出会ったイナーシャという少女から、
ドームの外にいる文通相手の少年に手紙を渡して欲しいと頼まれる。

Kino travels to a country divided into two parts: the very clean and peaceful city, closed off from the surrounding wastelands. She meets a little girl in the city suffering from a disease which is constantly being researched. The girl, however, does not know just how the reasearch is being done.
