Au début des années 1960, Alice et Céline vivent avec leurs familles dans la banlieue de Bruxelles. Elles sont les meilleures amies du monde jusqu’au jour où survient un événement tragique qui vient bouleverser leur univers quotidien.

Alice e Céline abitano in due villette a schiera collegate e sono grandi amiche, praticamente sorelle. Come le loro case, anche le loro famiglie sono speculari. Fino al giorno in cui Alice non assiste, impotente, alla morte del figlio di Céline, precipitato dalla finestra della sua camera. Accecata dal dolore, Céline rimprovera inizialmente all'amica di non aver fatto tutto il possibile per salvarlo.
