The Terror of Tornadoes

Tornadoes are nature's most awesome spectacle. Dropping randomly out of the sky, they kill more people and cause more damage than any other kind of storm including hurricanes. But despite all that we have learned about tornadoes, when and where they will strike remains a mystery. Get a firsthand look at the awesome destruction caused by some of the worst tornadoes in history Saragosa, Texas in 1987; Xenia, Ohio in 1974; and the Palm Sunday tornadoes that decimated several southern states in 1994. Stunning footage and interviews with survivors illustrates the spectacular savagery of these unpredictable storms. THE 20th CENTURY also introduces the scientists who are trying to unravel the twisters' mysteries. But their halting progress is a reminder of how little we know about the power of nature.
