Neveu de Napoléon Ier. Élu premier président de la Deuxième République en 1848, il mène le coup d'État du 2 décembre 1851 qui conduit à l'instauration du Second Empire le 2 décembre 1852, devenant empereur des Français. Vaincu à Sedan, il est fait prisonnier le 2 septembre 1870. La Troisième République est proclamée deux jours plus tard. Il est déchu par l'Assemblée nationale le 1er mars 1871.
Nephew of Napoleon I.
