1948年建國前期，正是國民黨負隅頑抗垂死掙紮之際。中共地下黨金庭槐小組在江都地區極其活躍。為了徹底截斷西南軍需要鎮并搗毀金庭槐組織，保密局派出傳奇特務吳其人前往江都。吳其人則借屍 還魂，以中共地下黨員鄧凱的身份來到江都。 鄧凱通過徐亦名打進金庭槐組織。葉生始終懷疑鄧凱的身份，兩個人開始暗地裡的鬥爭。當鄧凱終於找到金庭槐核心陳茹並想除掉她之時，解放戰爭勝利了。鄧凱潛伏[3]下來，為了洗白自己，他清除知道底細的人，並殺害了徐亦名和葉瀾。葉聲堅信事情並非偶然，相信這一切都與鄧凱有關，從未間斷過對鄧凱的調查。但狡猾的鄧凱屢次都搶在葉生之前破壞証據，讓葉聲的調查屢屢陷入僵局。為了逃避葉聲的追查，鄧凱自願加入了援疆建設。在新疆，二人展開了最後的對峙。最終葉聲揭穿了鄧凱的一切陰謀並開槍打死了鄧凱。
