《经典》栏目2004年3月开播以来，作为音乐频道大型日播60分钟栏目，一直坚持以弘扬经典音乐为诉求，多角度、全方位地介绍代表世界顶级水准，具有深厚内涵的音乐文化。在《经典》栏目中播出的内容多元化。音乐欣赏类节目包括：古典音乐演奏会、芭蕾、歌剧、电影原声/音乐剧音乐、动画音乐、流行音乐演唱会、轻音乐演奏会、颁奖典礼等。 《经典》栏目为了丰富节目的知识和信息量，提高音乐的功能性和社会作用，更加贴近百姓，特别制作了如《智慧乐声》、《合唱》、《音乐影响力》、《我们的音乐年代》等系列节目。同时，还对于本年度音乐家的重大历史纪念，本年度外交、文化交流方面都时效性地播出相关节目，与社会文化生活做到同步。《经典》栏目注重主题化、系列化节目策划，坚持高品质制作，力推精品，打造品牌；与此同时，《经典》栏目倡导音乐反映社会、音乐影响时代、音乐引领世界的音乐“入世”观，凸显音乐与全球历史进程、与个人生命旅程同呼吸、共命运的文化特质。
