宋慈（歐陽震華飾演）誕生於棺材中，被取笑為“棺材仔”，飽受歧視。然而樂觀積極的他從不受影響，是一個快樂的打更人。直到他與俠義江湖女唐思（宣萱飾演）被捲進謀殺村長的案件中被判死刑，在案件偵破過程中得到了新知縣宋翊的幫助，沉冤得雪之餘還被聘請為仵工。其後二人聯手，屢破奇案。唐思與捕快聶楓（陳妙瑛飾演同樣暗戀宋翊，然而宋翊迎娶的，卻是富家千金藍彩蝶。宋翊的聰明和憨厚慢慢讓唐思與聶楓刮目相看，這時卻傳來了唐思乃是公主的消息，同時，宋翊的行為引起了父母的懷疑，他……不是真的宋翊嗎？
