上海的一个夏夜，宗英在家中遇到了一位不速之客，他自称是上海699号旧公寓的主人。 每天晚上，他的时间都会从 1937 年穿越到现代，并在早晨回到过去。 他甚至还有中华民国律师身份的证明。 虽然盛庆让试图让她相信自己是另一个时代的人，但头脑冷静的宗英很快就将其视为无稽之谈。 然而当他消失在她眼前时，她别无选择，只能开始接受这个事实。 最初的偶然相遇已经找到了目的。
