    Thursday sees 6Music broadcasting from the BBC's legendary Maida Vale studios, for the very first 6Music: In Concert performance. Joining us will be a band who shaped the sound of Alternative Rock. Having sold just under 2 million albums worldwide, they are among rock music's greatest pioneers. Single-handedly spawning the grunge movement of the 1990s, their unique mix of punk, pop and surf rock inspired an entire generation of musicians, and embodied 90's alternative Rock.

    6 Music Live returns to BBC Maida Vale, with a live performance from Johnny Marr. The former Smiths guitarist and one of the most influential musicians of the past thirty years has played with acts such as Electronic, The Cribs and Modest Mouse. He has now struck out alone and is performing for 6 Music in the week his second solo album, Playland, is released.

    Five years after the release of her two million selling self-titled debut album, La Roux bring their magnificent brand of electro pop to listeners. Championed early on by 6 Music's Steve Lamacq, La Roux's second album, Trouble in Paradise, was released to rave reviews earlier in the summer. Singer Elly Jackson plays tracks from that alongside classics from the debut.

    Now over thirty years into a career during which the Manchester band has sold over 12 million albums worldwide, James released their first album in six years earlier in 2014, the acclaimed La Petite Mort. Their session is a celebratory performance featuring of music old and new material.

    Catch highlights from the epic finale of this year's BBC Radio 6 Music Live at Maida Vale, as Lauren Laverne is joined by the one and only New Order. Maida Vale has played an important role in the rise of Bernard Sumner and Co, from Joy Division's sessions in 1979 to New Order gigs in 1998. Expect a fair few classics from the band, who have quite the catalogue to draw from, as well as new cuts that will cement their place as one of the most important acts to come out of not only the north west... but the UK.

This show is part of the 6 Music Live series that has been coming to Maida Vale since 2012, with the likes of Primal Scream, Underworld, De La Soul and Paul McCartney.

    Best known as the lead singer and lyricist for the rock band Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant is joined by his Sensational Space Shifters to perform songs from the new album Carry Fire ahead of their UK tour, alongside some of his classic tracks. This is his eleventh album and first full-length release since 2014's acclaimed Lullaby And...The Ceaseless Roar.

    BBC Radio 6 Music Live At Maida Vale is now in its sixth year and you can watch the highlights of a week-long celebration of incredible music performances hosted by Lauren Laverne. In 2017 BBC Radio 6 Music invited Morrissey to perform live for the first time for them, Robert Plant, who first played Maida Vale studios for the BBC with Led Zeppelin back in 1969, twice Mercury Music nominated Alt-J, instrumental extraordinariness Mogwai, as well as Loyle Carner, who brought his fresh hip hop style along with the House Gospel Choir and special guests.
