本作は、すれ違うことすらないはずの２人が出会い、大きな隔たりを越えて惹（ひ）かれ合うラブストーリー。堅い家庭で育ったまじめすぎる高校教師・小川愛実（おがわ・まなみ）が、文字の読み書きが苦手なホスト・カヲルに言葉や社会を教える秘密の“個人授業”を続ける中で次第に距離を縮めていくも、さまざまな批判や非難、憎しみ、嫉妬が容赦なく２人を襲い――。
