Who Built The Catacombs

Beneath the mighty capital of the Roman Empire hides a labyrinth of secret passages and hidden chambers. It is the ancient underground cemeteries used by the Christian and Jewish communities in ancient Rome, a complex labyrinth of more than 60 miles of burial chambers. In the second century the catacombs were only a place of burial, but later Christians gathered in them to celebrate the funeral rites and the worship of their dead. And during the Christian persecutions they were the best shelter and a center of pilgrimage. Discover how they were constructed and symbolism hidden in these deserted tombs, shedding light on some of the secrets of the catacombs still puzzling scholars today.
