When Alpha Male Achilles is injured, he's in danger of losing his status to upstart DJ. On the bright side, Achilles has a new son, Gomez, and Pete is excited to get to know the infant.
DJ challenges Achilles for leadership. When winter arrives, food is scarce and the troop ventures onto a farmer's land to steal crops. But he has a gun and a dog, which he will not hesitate to use.
DJ, now the alpha of the troop, meets his match in Grandpa Joshua, who refuses to let him steal bushbuck meat from him; Pete bonds with DJ and feels positive that life will improve for the troop.
DJ matures into the troop's leader, strengthening relationships and taking responsibility for the troop's safety. Meanwhile, Achilles settles in as a father figure to Gomez and the other youngsters.
Time is running out: Pete is about to return to the UK, and a farmer has vowed to shoot the baboons. If Caroline, a young female, can't make it back to her family by nightfall, it could prove fatal.
Pete says goodbye to the baboons who have become his family in the last three years: Van, who needs to find his own troop, Achilles, who is healing, and DJ, the now respected Alpha of the group.
