Kiara är uppvuxen i den traditionella vampyrfamiljen Natt och Dag men drömmer om att leva som en vanlig tonåring. Festa, passa in och inte minst dansa något som anses uteslutet för en hårt hållen vampyrtjej i ett segregerat litet samhälle. Redan första dagen på gymnasiet blir hon indragen i intriger mellan nördar, coola tjejer och festfixare.
