Can we use science to explain the seasons and long winters in Game of Thrones? In GoT, based off George R. R. Martin's book series A Song of Ice and Fire, the seasons can last many years and their lengths vary unpredictable to even the Maesters. Astronomers are of course huge fans of science fiction and fantasy stories and have even come up with a way to explain how Westeros could experience such wild seasons.
