Jim and Liz find that Andy has not slept on the sofa. Liz doesn't like the idea of him and Paula Maxwell sleeping together. Mike and Alma spend the night together. Rita urges Ted to find a specialist to talk about his tumour. He tells her that he's been to both Christie's and Guy's Hospital but no one can help him. She is distressed that he's going to die. He tells her that he wants to enjoy the rest of his life. Andy is worried what his parents will say about him sleeping with Paula. Ted explains to Rita how he feels about his illness. She tells him that she feels cheated; she thought she was going to be happy for the rest of her life but that was a trick. Liz and Jim tell Andy that they're disappointed in him. Liz feels that Paula can't have any self-respect. He apologises but assures them they took precautions. Mike announces his engagement in the Rovers.
