She learns how even big heavy things can float because of a force called buoyancy. Next, Maddie heads to a beach to discover how sand is made. She explains how a process called weathering breaks the rocks down to small pieces and how all the tiny grains of rock make sand. She then uses a special microscope camera to see how thousands of bits of different minerals like quartz make up sand.
