From March 1976, Argentina was ruled for several years by a military junta led by General Jorge Videla. Some 30,000 people were abducted and murdered by the regime’s security forces. Many of their children disappeared - but where did they go? Following the military coup in 1976, a systematic campaign of repression began. Around 30,000 Argentinians were abducted and murdered by the security forces - including some 500 women who were pregnant or had recently given birth. For years, no one knew what had happened to the children of these 'disappeared' women. Had they perished along with their mothers? Or had they perhaps survived? After searching for many years, investigators made a shocking discovery: many of these children had been secretly adopted by families with links to the military, and raised under new identities. In some cases, they were living with people who had been involved in the crimes committed against their parents.
